There was an article in a local newspaper that drew my attention. It said that one of the Nanganallurians makes eggless cake at home on order for birthdays and parties.
So I decided to give it a try. When I went there I found a whole lot of other activities too! They came up with the samples they made of Fashion jewellery, saree designing, beauty treatments and so on.
Mrs. Regamani, Mrs Rukmani and Mrs. Janaki form a group called Akshaya (meaning forever). They make fashion jewellery on order as well as for sale in the exhibitions they organize periodically. If you want a jewellery set to match your new saree, there you are. The price starts at Rs 150/- for ordinary stones, and increase depending on the quantity and quality used. You can also give a new look to your old silk saree with designs made by sticking threads, stones, chamkis etc.. One such patch is charged Rs 60/-, and your saree may need 5 to 6 of such patches normally. Designs with 3D fabric colors etc are also done. You can order handmade return gifts for your guests at parties or during the Navaratri season.
If you are interested in learning it from them and doing it yourself, they can train you too. Jewellery classes are priced at Rs 650/- to cover a range of 5 items in 4 hours. The timings are flexible and you can fix it up with them.
Mrs. Janaki is a beautician who can visit your house for the required beauty treatments.
They conduct frequent exhibitions to display their products and sell them.
All said and done, one thing remains to be mentioned. The eggless cake was real fluffy and yummy and was appreciated by one and all. The only thing it left us wishing was that the icing could have been done with cream instead of butter.
