AN ARTIST IN EVERYONE

Everyone likes beautiful things. But each of us has a different idea of what beauty is. It may be a painting or a sculpture or work on clothes paper or anything. It is ore interesting to create beautiful things; and Pidilite and Talk Media have made it possible for everyone to be an artist. One day under their effective training and I too got to be an artist; just like that!!!!

The Talk Media is a neighborhood weekly distributed free of cost at its surrounding areas. It has distribution in any areas namely – Annanagar, Adyar, Vadapalani, Nanganallur, Kellys, Broadway, Velachery, Nungabakkam, Mylapore, T.nagar. They mainly strive on the advertisements given in their papers.

The Pidilite Industry is a well known commodity in the market famous for its products like fevicol, fevicryl and its art materials. The two got together to organize a workshop to teach painting for beginners. The topics they took up were as follows: Pot painting greeting card making glass painting free stroke painting finger painting fabric method painting vegetable block painting. They had set the age limit to 14 years and above. The venue was The Red Cross Society, Egmore.

We were asked to bring a few things from home like chart paper white cloth glass for painting etc. However it was mentioned in the ad that we could get these items at the venue for a small price. So I decided to get it at the venue itself.

But then I realized how wrong I was. The crowd was unmanageable. What with above 800 people turning up for the workshop and most of the deciding to buy it at the venue. May be the organizers did not expect it. But we sure had to fight our way through the people at the counter to buy our goods. Once we got through this we had to give our names and get the painting materials at the pre-mentioned cost. And then we could go to the big hall and find a place for ourselves.

They began by giving an introduction on the company and the media. There were about 12 trainers in each hall; and there were 3 halls. Each of these 12 trainers would take up a group of about 40-50 participants while one instructor would be on the dais describing how to go about the painting. In this way the organizers were able to give individual attention to each of the 800 participants!!!! The instructors had been certified by the Pidilite industry as teachers of Arts and rafts after a session of training for the.

Mr Pramod Joseph had been the instructor at the hall where I had been and s Devakumari was our groups’ trainer.

We first started with the glass painting. Mr.Pramod had started with an introduction on the types of glass painting available and where they could be used. We were provided with the design to paint on and were instructed how to go about. Then we did the others like pot painting on fabric material pot painting and so on. We were given ample time to do the work and were guided by our personal trainers too. In between we had our lunch tie and then continued with our paints.

Sometime in the middle of the session we were also told about some of the products of the Pidilite group which we would not have known otherwise.

The Talk media director Kausalya Jawahar addressed the gathering towards the end of the day. I also got to talk to Mrs.Meera Rao who is qualified as a trainer for painting and raft works. She told e that they also conduct workshops for those who would like to be teachers in arts and rafts like her. The program will be for 5 days and the participants will be given a project work to do for a month or so. This project can be done at hoe and submitted to the teacher. They are evaluated and certified as Teachers for arts and rafts by the Pidilite group of Industries. They are also planning to conduct workshops for kids less than 14 years of age.

Now I look forward give a face lift to that new plain dress of mine that I bought last week and proudly wear it for a party.
