OF EATING AND LIVING

There are people who live to eat and others who eat to live. In any case, food is an essential part of life. And then there are people who prefer the same kind of food all the items and others who get out of monotony. Thankfully, the people who would like to start business in the food industry have it all. There are a wide variety of restaurants all over the city of Chennai, bringing food from all over the world. There are restaurants which are multi-cuisine and others who give all the variety from a single country. Yet others claim to give you health foods. The presence of so many eatouts has given rise to a different kind of family outing or get-togethers.

It is one thing to eat out for the sake of it, and the other to order outside food for the necessity of it. There are people who can not make food at home either because they are not well enough, or they cannot spare time for it. And this has given rise to a new industry called home-made foods. These home-made foods are mostly made by housewives who can spare some time for earning an extra income. There are also people in this industry who like cooking and therefore have taken up this kind of business. So it has now become mutually beneficial.

However, home made food has a lot of benefits. The people who get into this industry mainly strive by word of mouth publicity. They make themselves known only to their friends and relative circle who, in turn spread out to their social circle. The home made foods can be trusted for being fresh and hygienic. This kind of business is sometimes unique if it is taken up by someone who is passionate about cooking. The recipes are made according to the family traditions and are very authentic. All said and done everyone will agree that they are more affordable than the hotel industry. They are less oily and therefore can be had on a daily basis by everyone including chronic illness patients and pregnant women.

However, on the other side, the home made food industry also has its own weak points. There may be inconsistency in making at home unlike that in hotels. A particular dish may have tasted well one day and not so good on the other. There may be some people who may offer multi-cuisine food, but may actually be the local version of the same food, with the ingredients changed to suit the taste buds of the localites. One major drawback is that most of the “foodmakers” are dependent on the circumstances at home. So if someone is sick or a relative drops in, they may not be able to supply food for that time.

Home made or hotel made, one does enjoy a break from everything, but still comes back to one’s own home with a renewed longing for their own homemade food.
